Toshiba Launches Dual SiC MOSFET Module For Industrial Equipment
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (Toshiba) has expanded its lineup with the launch of “IX800FXF2YMS4”, a dual silicon carbide (SiC) metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) module for industrial equipment.
In a statement, Toshiba said the new module features its third-generation SiC MOSFET chips, a drain-source voltage rating of 3,300 volts (V) and a drain current (DC) rating of 800 amperes (A).
The module is designed for industrial equipment applications, including railway traction inverters and converters, renewable energy power generation systems, power conversion systems and industrial motor control equipment.
Manufacturers of such equipment must constantly meet increasing demands for higher efficiency, smaller size and improved reliability, while large surge currents that can flow through power semiconductor modules under abnormal conditions require sufficient surge current capability.
Toshiba said IX800FXF2YMS4 has an optimised SiC chip design and an I²t characteristic of 300 kiloampere squared seconds (kA²s), an indicator of the diode section’s surge current capability under abnormal conditions.
The module has a drain-source on-voltage (sense) of 1.4V, which helps reduce conduction losses, while its switching loss characteristics contribute to improved equipment reliability and efficiency and smaller cooling systems.
The new product adopts the iXPLV package, which offers mounting compatibility, and uses silver sintering bonding technology to improve the heat resistance and reliability of bonded sections with SiC chips, achieving a 175 degrees Celsius channel temperature rating required for industrial equipment.
The addition brings the number of SiC MOSFET modules in Toshiba’s iXPLV package to four, expanding the range of available product options.
Toshiba will continue expanding its lineup of SiC MOSFET modules for industrial equipment and providing product options to meet diverse equipment specifications and applications, contributing to more reliable, efficient and compact industrial equipment.
