TM Keen To Participate In Salam Submarine Cable Network Project
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is keen to participate in the Sambungan Kabel Dasar Laut MADANI (SALAM) project, said its group chief executive officer Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris.
He said TM is optimistic about evaluating options to enhance connectivity between East and West Malaysia through the project.
“We are optimistic about evaluating options to connect East and West Malaysia. Certainly SALAM is one of the projects that we are keen to participate in,” he told reporters at a media briefing on TM’s second-quarter 2026 results here today.
On July 16, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) invited eligible licensees to submit draft proposals for the SALAM initiative, a strategic national project under the Universal Service Provision framework.
The SALAM initiative will establish a new submarine cable system linking Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, comprising 10 Cable Landing Stations connected via four submarine cable segments spanning approximately 5,582 kilometres.
MCMC said the project is designed to strengthen the resilience, reliability and continuity of the country’s communications network.
Meanwhile, Amar Huzaimi said the group is optimistic about its performance in the second half of the year, with positive momentum across all three business segments, namely Unifi, TM One and TM Global, expected to continue.
“We have good traction this year across all three lines of business. Unifi, TM One and TM Global have all recorded positive growth trajectories, and we anticipate this momentum will continue in the second half of the year,” he said.
