Vale To Maintain 20 Mln Tonnes Of Iron Ore Transshipment Through Malaysia

IPOH, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Vale Malaysia Minerals Sdn Bhd aims to maintain its annual transshipment volume of approximately 20 million tonnes of iron ore from its Teluk Rubiah, Manjung distribution hub in Perak, driven by steady demand across the Asia-Pacific region.

Vale International SA (Malaysia Branch) chief administrative officer Afzal Mohsin said the company's core strategy in Malaysia is to sustain safe, reliable, and consistent operations to supply high-quality iron ore to regional clients while supporting decarbonisation efforts.

"For us in Malaysia, the idea is to run a stable operation, to continue to be able to supply the region, a stable, reliable and safe operation," he told reporters during a lunch session with Perak media here today.

He noted that while Vale's global iron ore production target is set between 335 million and 345 million tonnes this year, the Malaysian facility plays a vital role in the value chain by receiving iron ore from Brazil via Valemax bulk carriers and transshipping it to key markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

In addition, he said the company continues to leverage advanced technology to enhance port efficiency and safety, operating one of the first automated ports in Southeast Asia equipped with autonomous ship unloaders.

"We really look at using technology to be a more efficient port and at the same time also build capacity within our teams in Vale in Malaysia," he added.
