EPF 1H 2026 Total Investment Income Up 48 Pct To RM57.50 Bln

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The Employees Provident Fund’s (EPF) total investment income rose by 48 per cent to RM57.50 billion in the first six months ended June 30, 2026 (1H 2026) from RM38.92 billion in the corresponding period a year ago.

In a statement today, EPF said the figure includes unrealised mark-to-market gains and losses on securities, arising mainly from foreign exchange rate fluctuations. Consistent with previous years, the unrealised gains and losses are not distributable as dividends.

It said total investment income for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2Q 2026) was RM29.77 billion, up 44 per cent from RM20.61 billion in the same quarter last year.

According to EPF, the equities income increased 52 per cent to RM20.94 billion in 2Q 2026 from RM13.77 billion in 2Q 2025, supported by a strong recovery in global equity markets, which provided opportunities for fund managers to capitalise on gains, contributing to income growth.

“Investor sentiment also improved as concerns over energy prices eased, and confidence in the artificial intelligence investment supercycle remained strong,” it said, adding that equities accounted for 70 per cent of the total investment income for the quarter.

Fixed income instruments contributed RM6.91 billion, accounting for 23 per cent of total investment income in 2Q 2026. Malaysian government securities and equivalents, loans and bonds, continued to provide stable and resilient returns, serving as a key defensive component amid market volatility.

“Real estate and infrastructure recorded an income of RM1.30 billion in 2Q 2026, while money market instruments generated RM620 million, in line with return expectations for these asset classes,” it added.

EPF said total investment assets for 2Q 2026 were at RM1.54 trillion, with 39 per cent invested globally. International investments generated RM19.29 billion, accounting for 65 per cent of total investment income.

Total investment income for conventional and shariah savings was RM24.16 billion and RM5.61 billion, respectively, it said.

EPF chief executive officer Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn said EPF capitalised on strong global equity markets while maintaining a disciplined long-term investment approach.

“Similar to the first quarter, we continued to front-load income during 2Q as market and geopolitical risks remain elevated.

“While equity markets have supported performance in 1H 2026, members should temper expectations as such market opportunities may not repeat themselves in 2H 2026. Our focus remains on delivering sustainable long-term returns, backed by a resilient portfolio,” he said.
