Melaka Inland Port To Drive Economic Growth, Strengthens Logistics Sector
ALOR GAJAH, July 6 (Bernama) -- The RM300 million Melaka Inland Port (MIP) project is expected to be a catalyst for the state’s economic growth by bolstering the logistics and trade sectors and supporting the state government’s aspiration to reach RM10 billion in investments by 2030.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the inland port, to be developed on a 52.8-hectare site in Mukim Taboh Naning, is part of the 2,023-hectare MCORP Hi-Tech Park development located near the Pulau Sebang Railway Station.
He said MIP will be equipped with an integrated depot hub, bonded and non-bonded customs areas, container and rail cargo handling operations, warehousing and distribution centres, multimodal transport services, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and smart logistics systems.
“The MIP development, with a gross development value (GDV) of RM540 million, will be carried out in phases, with the first phase covering 28.32 hectares and expected to be completed in less than a year.
“The second phase, covering the remaining 24.56 hectares, will commence once operations in the first phase reach optimal levels,” he told reporters after officiating the MIP groundbreaking ceremony here today.
Ab Rauf said all these components will improve supply chain efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of the national logistics industry.
He emphasised that the MIP development aligns with the state government’s aspiration to achieve RM10 billion in investment by 2030, with a focus on high-tech sectors, green technology and digital transformation.
“Melaka’s strategic position between Singapore and Port Klang gives the project an advantage in serving as a logistics gateway linking major industrial zones to domestic and international markets.
“When fully operational, MIP is expected to handle up to 25,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) per month, or 300,000 TEU per year, with an estimated value of RM120 million,” he said.
He said that the project is also expected to create around 500 jobs across various professional and high-impact roles, while attracting further domestic and international investment to Melaka.
The chief minister added that the state government is confident that MIP will be the main catalyst for sustainable economic growth, strengthen trade relations, and elevate Melaka as the country’s strategic logistics gateway to regional and global markets.
