AGC Biologics Adds Copenhagen To 500 Mln Euros Pharma Supply Deal
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- AGC Biologics has expanded its existing long-term manufacturing agreement with a global pharmaceutical company to include its Copenhagen facility, lifting the deal’s total value to more than 500 million euros. (1 Euro = RM4.56)
The expansion adds six commercial biologics programmes at the Copenhagen site to the five already allocated to AGC Biologics’ new facility in Yokohama, Japan, under the existing agreement.
In a statement, AGC Biologics said it did not name the customer, citing the industry practice of keeping such agreements confidential.
AGC Biologics will handle process transfer, scale-up, validation and commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients at Copenhagen. Several products will be filed with regulators for both sites, allowing production to move between locations as capacity and cost needs change.
“This customer is building a more resilient, more flexible supply chain, and they have chosen to do that with us across two continents,” said AGC Biologics President and Chief Executive Officer, Alberto Santagostino.
He said two other customers have already decided to launch products from both its Seattle and Copenhagen facilities.
The Copenhagen site, expanded in 2024 with 18,000 square metres of manufacturing, laboratory and warehouse space, has eight 2,000-litre single-use bioreactor production lines. Customers using the site have received more than 50 commercial approvals from over 20 regulators.
AGC Biologics specialises in large-scale single-use bioreactor manufacturing and has one of the industry’s largest networks of single-use manufacturing capacity by volume, according to BDO’s bioTRAK database.
