19 Projects Worth RM279.1 Mln Approved In Segamat -- MITI
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) – Nineteen projects with an investment value of RM279.1 million have been approved in Segamat district, Johor, involving Buluh Kasap, Chaah, Jementah, Segamat Town and Labis.
The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) said the projects could potentially create 680 new job opportunities.
“Seventeen projects with an investment value of RM239.4 million in the Sekijang parliamentary constituency, comprising the Pemanis and Kemelah state constituencies, were also approved.
“The Sekijang projects could potentially create 612 new job opportunities,” MITI said in a written reply on the Parliament website today.
The approved investments in Segamat district and the Sekijang parliamentary constituency include food and wood-based products, metal fabrication and various supporting industries, MITI said.
The statement was in response to Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (PH-Sekijang), who asked about the type and number of investments — approved and realised — in Segamat district, particularly in the Sekijang parliamentary constituency. She also asked about investment value, sectors involved, job opportunities and the government’s plans to attract more investment to boost the local economy.
The projects approved in Segamat and the Sekijang parliamentary constituency are at various stages of implementation. Some are operational, others are work in progress, and others are in the midst of installing machinery and equipment.
“MITI and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) will continue to work closely with the Johor state government, Invest Johor, local authorities, technical agencies and industrial park developers to boost economic activities and attract more investment into Segamat district and the Sekijang parliamentary constituency,” the ministry said.
