Selangor Must Strengthen Local Talent To Maintain Foreign Investor Appeal -- Amirudin
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Selangor must intensify skill development for the local workforce and enhance their value-add to ensure foreign investors remain in the state, and not simply view it as a gateway to invest elsewhere.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state is providing various programmes and support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and supporting companies to ensure they continue to grow, rather than merely serving as supporters for multinational corporations (MNCs) and foreign investors entering the state.
“It is not easy to develop a solid ecosystem or meet international standards because that is a major challenge.
“That is why the development of our SMEs is not just about capital, but about the capability in terms of human resources,” he said during the “In Conversation with Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari” session at the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2026, here today.
Amirudin also hopes Selangor will possess a legacy that provides long-lasting benefits to the people of Selangor, including an ecosystem for human resource development that is continuously improved.
In addition, he said his team would focus on exploring new resources in Selangor and new technologies.
“Now is the time for us to explore nuclear energy, as I believe it is the future energy that we cannot ignore and is much needed to enable Selangor to sustain its development momentum,” he added.
