Budget 2027: LTAT To Strengthen Investments In Defence, Pharmaceutical Sectors
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) will continue to strengthen its strategic investments in the defence and pharmaceutical sectors through its five-year GEMPUR30 strategic plan, in line with national priorities under Budget 2027.
LTAT Chief Executive Datuk Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said both sectors were important to national security, the resilience of the healthcare system and Malaysia’s economic capabilities and reiterated the board’s commitment to ensuring that contributors’ funds were managed responsibly to generate sustainable returns while contributing to the country’s long-term strength.
“Through the five-year GEMPUR30 strategic plan, LTAT will continue to align its investment strategies with national priorities, including strengthening the defence and pharmaceutical sectors,” he said in a statement today.
In line with the aspirations of Budget 2027, he said LTAT would continue its strategic investment in Pharmaniaga to support the development of the country’s pharmaceutical industry, while strengthening the defence ecosystem through Boustead Group.
He explained that the investments were efforts to develop local industrial capabilities, enhance capacity in critical sectors, and support the national economic and security agenda.
He also shared that LTAT had participated in the New Economy Venture Fund through Sime Darby Property’s Elmina development, together with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), to support economic development and strengthen the country’s investment landscape.
“This participation is in line with the GEAR-uP initiative, which encompasses a RM25 billion domestic investment agenda, thereby strengthening the role of government-linked investment companies (GLICs) in driving economic transformation and developing high-growth sectors,” he said.
Mohammad Ashraf said GEAR-uP provided a platform for GLICs to work with the government and private sector to mobilise capital in support of Malaysia’s next phase of economic growth.
He said LTAT was ready to play a role in this effort by balancing its responsibility to protect contributors’ interests with opportunities to participate in investments that contribute to the country’s economic development.
