NTT DATA Launches Sustainability Initiative With Antarctic Expedition

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- NTT DATA, a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI), digital business and technology services, has launched “Intact, intelligent action”, a global initiative aimed at encouraging people and organisations to translate sustainability commitments into action, with Antarctica as its first focus.

As part of the initiative, 12 NTT DATA employees will join polar explorer Robert Swan and more than 60 business and community leaders on the 2041 Leadership on the Edge expedition from Nov 25 to Dec 2.

The expedition aboard the Magellan Explorer will take participants to the Antarctic Peninsula and nearby islands, where they will explore leadership, climate policy, sustainability and innovation, with a focus on applying commitments to practical action.

NTT DATA began working with Swan in 2022 and appointed him as its Sustainability Ambassador in 2025. The upcoming expedition will be the final Antarctica expedition that Swan personally organises and leads.

NTT DATA Chief Sustainability Business Officer and Head of Sustainability Innovation, David Costa said the initiative aims to encourage greater awareness and action to protect environmentally fragile places.

“We want people to experience and understand places that need protecting, then consider how technology, responsible choices and collaboration can help preserve them,” he said in a statement.

The initiative builds on NTT DATA’s sustainability framework, “Planet. Prosperity. People.”, which guides its environmental, economic and social sustainability efforts.

The company said future chapters of “Intact, intelligent action” will focus on other environmentally vulnerable locations, using an open-frame flag made from materials contributed by people around the world as a symbol of shared responsibility for their preservation.

Swan, who became the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles, has led more than 20 ship-based expeditions to Antarctica since 2003 and continues to advocate for environmental protection and sustainability.

To address emissions associated with the upcoming expedition, Swan will make a donation for each participant to support rainforest regeneration in Australia.
