KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Pakistan plans to bring private sector players from the textile and Islamic banking sectors to participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2027.

Pakistan High Commission Trade and Investment Counsellor Tahira Javed said the industry participants represent emerging segments of the halal industry that have attracted interest from businesses in both Pakistan and Malaysia.

“(For MIHAS 2026), we are focusing on (showcasing) halal meat and rice, and also value-added agricultural products, such as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), pink salt, and honey, while other sectors include textiles, ready-made garments, and Islamic banking; these are the areas where interest lies on both sides.

“We will try to include private sector companies from these sectors to participate in MIHAS 2027,” she said during an interview with the Bernama Mobile Studio programme on “Exhibiting at MIHAS 2026 and Global Halal Trade”.

Tahira also said Pakistan is actively engaging with Malaysian companies to boost exports of tropical fruits from both nations, given the segment’s growth potential and growing business interest.

“We are encouraging some of the top Malaysian companies in the fresh produce sector; some did accompany me last year to the FoodAgro Exhibition, and we discussed how tropical fruits can be exported from Malaysia to Pakistan.

“We are exporting our citrus fruits and Pakistani mangoes, which we call the ‘King of Fruits’ in Pakistan. These two fruits have the potential in the Malaysian market, and we are willing to encourage and facilitate durian, coconut and other tropical fruits from Malaysia to Pakistan,” she said.

Tahira extended an invitation to Malaysian companies to participate in the 4th International Food and Agriculture Exhibition (FoodAg 2026), which will take place from Nov 23–26, 2026, at the Expo Centre Karachi in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Tahira said MIHAS 2026 continues to serve as a vital platform for Pakistan to showcase its halal industry while contributing to the country’s economic growth, with participation from both the government and private sectors.

She said key government agencies participated in MIHAS 2026, including the Pakistan High Commission, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA) and the Director General of the Plant Protection Department.

“Various engagements at the official and government-to-government (G2G) levels took place between Pakistan and Malaysia during MIHAS this time,” she said.

MIHAS 2026, themed “Shaping Trust, Driving Resilience”, which runs from Sept 23-26, features 2,000 booths, 1,700 exhibitors and 450 international buyers from 58 countries.

The 22nd edition of MIHAS recorded RM5.5 billion in sales by the fourth day of the event, while visitor numbers reached 30,000 as of the third day, putting it on track to meet its target of 50,000 visitors.
