Alam Maritim Operations Continue As Usual Despite CEO Facing Ship Charter Rate Fraud Charges

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (BERNAMA) -- Alam Maritim Resources Bhd’s group managing director and group chief executive officer Datuk Azmi Ahmad has been placed on leave, while the company assured that its operations will continue as usual with no disruption.

The offshore support vessel operator said the functions of the group managing director and group chief executive officer will be assumed by an executive committee (exco) until further notice. 

“The exco will be supported by the senior strategic adviser,” it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today. 

It said the company does not consider that the charges have any material impact on the group's operations or financial position, save as otherwise disclosed in this announcement.

Azmi was charged in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today with two alleged offences of cheating under Section 417 of the Penal Code [Act 574].

However, Azmi pleaded not guilty to both charges and claimed trial. 

“He has voluntarily taken temporary garden leave from his executive and management duties with effect from today until further notice. He remains a director of the company,” it added.
