China's Guizhou Digital Industry Cluster Reaches 300 Bln Yuan
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Guizhou’s digital industry cluster has reached a scale of 300 billion yuan (roughly RM180 billion), while the southwestern Chinese province’s computing capacity has surpassed 176 EFLOPS (exa floating-point operations per second).
176 EFLOPS is equivalent to a theoretical computing capacity of roughly 176 quintillion calculations per second.
In a statement, Guizhou vice governor Luo Qiang said the province has built a strong foundation in artificial intelligence (AI) and the big data industry, with growing emphasis on applying large models in specific industries.
He said Guizhou would deepen its “AI Plus” initiative, accelerate token economy development and continue exploring new forms of the intelligent economy.
Meanwhile, head of China’s National Data Administration Liu Liehong said data has increasingly become the foundational resource and the engine of innovation.
He said the administration will vigorously promote the development and use of data resources while encouraging greater integration of public-sector, corporate and other data forms.
The aim is to empower more industries to establish a complete value cycle covering the confirmation of data rights, data pricing, revenue distribution, data circulation and utilisation, as well as data security governance.
Liu said the move will help unlock more data value and contribute to China’s high-quality development.
Both officials spoke at the Big Data Expo 2026 DATA Night held in Guiyang, Guizhou on Aug 28, which brought together more than 500 representatives from government, industry, academia, research and application sectors from China and abroad.
Hosted by People’s Daily Online and Guizhou Big Data Group, the event, themed “Data Powers Embodied Intelligence, Intelligence Empowers the Real Economy”, focused on institutional frameworks for data elements, technological breakthroughs in embodied intelligence, and real-world industrial applications.
The China International Big Data Industry Expo’s organising committee held it to provide a platform for dialogue, exchange, and cooperation in advancing AI and embodied intelligence.
Bernama was among the media outlets participating in a programme hosted by Chinese news portal People’s Daily Online in conjunction with the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2026.
The programme brought journalists to Gui’an and other locations in Guizhou to observe the province’s developing digital and artificial intelligence industries.
