Malaysia Airlines To Retime Selected Flights Amid National Day Airspace Closures

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines Bhd will retime selected flights arriving at and departing from KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 following temporary airspace closures in conjunction with the 69th National Day celebrations.

The national airline said the temporary closures within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area are to facilitate rehearsals and the National Day Flypast 2026, resulting in scheduled aircraft take-offs and landings at KLIA being temporarily suspended during selected periods.

"Affected passengers will be notified via their registered contact details and are encouraged to check their latest flight status on the Malaysia Airlines website or mobile app before travelling to the airport

"With the upcoming school holidays and peak travel period from Aug 26 to Sept 6, 2026, passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 are advised to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for airport procedures," it said in a post on X.

It said the temporary airspace closures are scheduled from 11 am to noon on Aug 26-28, and from 8.45 am to 9.45 am on Aug 29 and 31, with the closures coinciding with rehearsals, the full rehearsal and National Day Flypast respectively.

Malaysia Airlines also reminded passengers that check-in counters close 60 minutes before scheduled departure for both domestic and international flights, while boarding gates close 30 minutes before departure.

It said passengers should also be prepared for extended waiting times at key touchpoints, including check-in counters, immigration and security clearance, which could exceed 45 minutes due to the anticipated high volume of travellers.

The airline advised passengers to ensure they have all required travel documents and verify entry and exit requirements through official channels before travelling.
