TRC Synergy-CCCC-UFUK Semarak JV Lands RM2.69 Bln Penang LRT Works Contract

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- TRC Synergy Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary TRC Construction Sdn Bhd (TRC) and its joint venture (JV) comprising China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) and Ufuk Semarak Sdn Bhd (UFUK) (CCCC-TRC-UFUK JV) secures RM2.69 billion Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) project works contract worth RM2.69 billion.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the construction company said the contract entails the design, construction, and completion of a sea-crossing viaduct, including spans for navigation channels, an elevated station, and other associated works from Macallum to Penang Sentral.

“The duration of the contract is for five years. It will not have any effect on the issued share capital or the shareholdings of the substantial shareholders of the company.

“Based on TRC's 30 per cent participation interest in the JV, the contract is expected to contribute positively to the revenue and earnings of the company over the duration of the contract,” it said.

Yesterday, Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) announced the award of the RM2.69 billion Civil Main Contract 2 Package (CMC2) to CCCC-TRC-UFUK for the Penang LRT's cross-sea extension linking Penang Island to the mainland.
