Penang Recorded RM20.2 Bln Investments As Of June 2026 -- MITI

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Penang recorded RM20.2 billion in approved investments between January and June 2026, comprising the primary, manufacturing and services sectors.

Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin said the investments are expected to create 20,216 new jobs for the local community.

The government also implemented several measures to ensure that residents of Tasek Gelugor, Kepala Batas and surrounding areas of Taman Teknologi @ Bertam in North Seberang Perai would benefit inclusively from the spillover effects of these investments, he said.

This includes MITI and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority’s (MIDA) emphasis on encouraging investing companies to prioritise hiring local talent, particularly in high-skilled and semi-skilled fields such as engineering, automation, technical operations, and operations management.

"Continuous collaboration has been established between industrial companies at Taman Teknologi @ Bertam and Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and higher learning institutions in North Seberang Perai and the northern region.

"Targeted training programmes have also been implemented, covering upskilling, reskilling and apprenticeship programmes tailored to companies' technological specifications to ensure the local community’s employability," he said during Dewan Rakyat's question-and-answer today.

He responded to Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan’s question (PN-Tasek Gelugor) on the federal government's mechanisms to ensure the North Seberang Perai population, particularly those in Tasek Gelugor and Kepala Batas, benefits from the Taman Teknologi @ Bertam development.
