Berjaya Construction To Undertake RM1.2 Bln Sanglang Port Development Project

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Berjaya Construction Bhd is set to undertake the design-and-build works for the Sanglang Port development project in Perlis, which has an estimated total development cost of RM1.2 billion, including initial construction costs of RM675 million.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, it said the scope of works will encompass procurement, design development, engineering and construction delivery.

It said Sanglang Port is a strategic maritime infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing the state’s maritime connectivity.

The project will complement the recently completed logistics infrastructure comprising the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Free Commercial Zone-Perlis Inland Port (PIP) and the Chuping Valley Industrial Area, said the group.

“Working in collaboration with Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd (Mutiara Perlis), the owner cum developer of PIP and Sanglang Port, Berjaya Construction will leverage its technical expertise and project delivery capabilities to support the development of the Sanglang Port’s infrastructure,” it said.

Berjaya Construction said the proposed development comprises two multi-user terminals, a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) terminal and a general cargo terminal along the four-kilometre trestle with water depths of up to 11.9 metres.

The group said the master plan also provides for five key maritime activities, including RORO operations, fisheries facilities, general cargo handling, an energy hub and multi-user facilities.

“The proposed facilities are expected to cater to fisheries and international tuna landings, commodities, petroleum-related cargo and liquefied petroleum gas activities.

“The RORO terminal is also intended to enhance maritime connectivity between Perlis and Langkawi by facilitating the movement of vehicles and goods, with round-the-clock operations envisaged, thus spurring tourism-related activities in the surrounding areas,” it said.

Meanwhile, Berjaya Property Bhd group chief executive officer Syed Ali Shahul Hameed said the Sanglang Port development project represents a significant opportunity to strengthen Perlis’ maritime infrastructure, enhance regional connectivity and support the growth of trade and industry.

“Berjaya Construction is committed to leveraging its engineering expertise and project delivery capabilities to support the development of quality infrastructure that delivers long-term value.

“Through close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, we look forward to contributing to a project that could strengthen Perlis’ position in maritime trade, logistics and energy-related activities while creating new opportunities for businesses and communities,” he said.
