Fuzhou’s 2025 Fishery Output Nets Record 70 Bln Chinese Yuan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Fuzhou’s fishery output value surpassed 70 billion Chinese yuan for the first time in 2025, ranking first in China for the 31st consecutive year, according to the organisers of the World Maritime Equipment Conference 2026. (100 Chinese yuan = RM61.21)

The capital of Fujian province, which hosted the conference from Oct 16 to 19, has expanded deep-sea aquaculture from nearshore to offshore waters and developed it into a model for modern fisheries, according to a statement.

Fuzhou’s gross ocean product, the value of its marine economy, has consistently ranked first in Fujian and among the highest in China. It grew at an average annual rate of 6.9 per cent during the 14th Five-Year Plan period from 2021 to 2025, contributing over 20 per cent of the city’s economic growth on average each year.

The city has streamlined approvals for sea area use, piloted property rights registration for deep-sea aquaculture platforms and provided financial support to ease high construction costs and financing difficulties for offshore aquaculture equipment.

It has also developed smart "marine ranches", using submersible platforms, net-cleaning robots and underwater inspection equipment to tackle the build-up of marine organisms on equipment. It has also set up an ocean sensing network combining buoys, tide gauges, 5G, satellite communications and artificial intelligence to improve early warning against typhoons and extreme weather.

Overseas, Fuzhou Hong Dong Fishery has built what it describes as China’s largest overseas distant-water fishery integrated base in Mauritania, with a total investment of US$300 million, creating more than 2,000 local jobs.

The China-Indonesia "Two Countries, Twin Parks" project, covering a planned 61 square kilometres with more than 250 operating industrial companies, has become a flagship cooperation platform under the Belt and Road Initiative, linking marine fisheries, food processing and cross-border supply chains.
