KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- High-speed airport train service provider Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) seeks further collaboration with universities to develop young talent and build local expertise in rail technology.
Chief executive officer Datin Noormah Mohd Noor said developing new talent is part of the company’s efforts to support the long-term development of airport rail connectivity in Malaysia.
ERL is collaborating with universities to train the next generation of talent, especially in taking a significant number of interns, she said.
According to Noormah, ERL recently embarked on an important train-related project and engaged about 20 temporary contract staff to give exposure to the project.
“While we have to bring in overseas companies to carry out this specialised project, we also involve local talents to let them understand the processes and gain practical experience.
“This serves as a platform for us to develop the younger generation of talent,” she said in an interview at the Bernama Mobile Studio in conjunction with Transport Expo Asia 2026 (TXA 2026), held here from Oct 20-22.
On its rail services, Noormah said ERL hopes to see greater utilisation of its city-centre check-in facility, which offers added convenience to passengers travelling to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“One of the unique features of KLIA Ekspres is that we have a check-in facility, which only five other airport rail services offer. I think this is unique for passengers.
“I do hope there is greater use of the check-in facility in the city centre because it is very convenient,” she said.
Noormah said that ERL also sought collaboration with industry stakeholders, partners and technology providers at TXA 2026 to explore new technologies that could enhance its services.
She said TXA 2026 was important for ERL to meet the stakeholders and partners.
“In terms of distribution and promotion, we also work closely with Tourism Malaysia to explore ways to promote efficient travel through KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit,” she added.
ERL has been operating for 24 years and maintains an on-time performance of 99.7 per cent, reflecting its strong operational efficiency.
The company also offers several integrated travel products to enhance connectivity between KLIA and the city centre, including KL TravelPass, which combines single or return KLIA Ekspres tickets with two days of unlimited travel on Rapid KL services through its collaboration with Rapid Rail.
In addition, ERL works with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTM) to cross-promote tickets on their respective platforms, while its Discover KL package combines KLIA Ekspres tickets with specially priced hop-on hop-off (HOHO) bus services for tourists.
