TSH Resources Says Indonesia Operations Unaffected By Forest Fires
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- TSH Resources Bhd said its operations, concessions and other assets in Indonesia had not been affected by recent forest and peatland fires.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the oil palm company, which operates in Malaysia and Indonesia, said it was responding to a general information request from Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) through announcements on Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd and SGX.
“TSH has not been named or issued any notice by any environmental agency in connection with the recent transboundary haze.
“Under the group’s strictly enforced zero-burning policy, the use of fire for any field operations, including land preparation, new planting and replanting, is prohibited across the group,” it said.
The policy reflected the group’s commitment to preventing land clearing by burning, in compliance with Malaysian and Indonesian laws, it said.
The policy has been incorporated into the group’s sustainability policy since May 2009, applies to all group companies and extends to its contractors and suppliers.
“In line with its ‘No New Planting on Peat’ commitment, the group has not developed any new plantings on peat since the cut-off date of Dec 31, 2015,” it said.
The group also has various fire prevention and response measures, spending an estimated average of RM2 million annually on them.
“All of the group’s estates in Indonesia are certified under the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) scheme, which is subject to regular third-party audits,” it added.
