6,781 Households Benefit From People’s Income Initiative As At August 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 6,781 households from the hardcore poor, poor and B40 groups had participated in the People’s Income Initiative, better known as Inisiatif Pendapatan Rakyat (IPR), nationwide as at Aug 31, 2026, the Ministry of Economy said.
Of these, 1,228 had benefited from the Food Entrepreneur Initiative (IPR-INSAN), with 929, or 76 per cent, recording cumulative sales of more than RM2,000, the ministry said.
“Some participants have recorded particularly strong sales. For example, participants in the IPR-INSAN programme at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Machang and Sungai Buloh Hospital each achieved average monthly sales of more than RM13,000,” it said.
Under the Agriculture Entrepreneur Initiative (IPR-INTAN), 2,034 participants were involved in viable agricultural projects, of whom 1,322, or 65 per cent, achieved monthly incomes of at least RM2,000.
Another 890 participants benefited from the Services Operator Initiative (IPR-IKHSAN), while 2,629 received assistance under the Hardcore Poverty Eradication Programme (BMT).
The IPR complements existing poverty eradication programmes by providing participants with support to undertake economic activities and generate sustainable additional income. It targets additional monthly income of RM2,000 per participant.
The ministry was responding to Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) on the initiative’s latest achievements, including the number of participants whose income had risen above the poverty line.
