Budget 2027: Increased Aid To Help Families Care For Bedridden PwD - Exco
IPOH, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The increase in monthly financial assistance from RM500 to RM600 under Budget 2027 will provide additional support to families caring for bedridden persons with disabilities (PwD) and chronically ill patients.
Perak Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed welcomed the initiative, along with other measures introduced under the budget to support women, families, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and cooperatives.
She expressed hope that all initiatives announced by the government would reach their intended beneficiaries and be fully utilised by those eligible.
“At the very least, the increase in assistance will help ease the burden on families, as we are placing greater emphasis on the care economy within the family itself,” she told reporters after the Perak state-level National Sports Day (HSN) 2026 celebration at the Perak Youth and Sports Complex here today.
During the tabling of Budget 2027 yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the allocation for assistance to persons with disabilities (PwD) had been increased to RM1.5 billion, benefiting more than 300,000 recipients.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the monthly assistance for caregivers of bedridden PwD and chronically ill patients had been increased from RM500 to RM600, while the income eligibility threshold for the PwD worker allowance had been raised from RM1,700 to RM2,000.
Commenting on the increased maternity leave entitlement for civil servants, Salbiah said the move would give mothers more time to recover after childbirth and care for their young children.
She said Perak’s fertility rate, estimated at 1.6 children per woman, remained a concern as the state’s population continued to age.
