GPM Proposes Free Training, NGO Mentorship For Budi Belia Participants

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia has proposed that participants in the Budi Belia programme be offered free training in first aid, disaster preparedness and aid management to enhance the effectiveness of their volunteer services.

Its chief executive officer Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the training could be followed by placements with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based on participants’ interests, along with mentorship to ensure the skills acquired could be applied in community service.

He said GPM welcomed the programme announced under Budget 2027, which offers a RM100 e-wallet incentive to young people who complete the stipulated number of volunteer hours with selected NGOs.

“GPM is ready to collaborate on developing pilot projects in disaster preparedness and community humanitarian services, with an initial evaluation after three to six months before they are expanded,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad Fahmi also proposed giving participants the option of voluntarily contributing part of their incentive to community projects, complemented by matching funds from the government or corporate sector to double the impact.

He said the selection of NGOs should be transparent and open to capable local organisations, while resources should be provided to support training, supervision and safety, alongside a simple and verifiable system for confirming volunteer hours.

He said projects should be guided by community needs and feedback, with supervision to ensure continuity of support, adding that participation across racial, religious and social backgrounds could build trust through shared experiences of helping one another.
