Budget 2027 Boosts NRES Funding For Biodiversity, Wildlife And Green Technology

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The allocation for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) has increased by 4.8 per cent to RM2.51 billion under Budget 2027 to strengthen biodiversity conservation, wildlife protection and environmental sustainability.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the allocation for the Ecological Fiscal Transfer for Biodiversity Conservation (EFT) incentive had also increased by eight per cent to RM270 million, from RM250 million in 2026.

“This increase reflects the importance of cooperation between the federal government and state governments in intensifying environmental conservation efforts and protecting the country’s biodiversity,” he said in a statement today.

The government also increased the allocation for Property and Crop Loss Assistance Due to Wildlife Attacks (BKHT) by 20 per cent to RM1.8 million, from RM1.5 million last year, to help alleviate losses suffered by the public due to human-wildlife conflict.

In the green technology sector, the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) programme and Green Technology Financing Scheme (GFS) have been extended and enhanced until Dec 31, 2030.

Arthur said companies investing in qualifying green technology assets, including energy-efficient equipment and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for their own use, were eligible for tax allowances of up to 100 per cent.

“This measure is reinforced by a RM15 billion investment by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in the National Grid, a RM1 billion investment by UEM Lestra in hybrid energy and energy storage projects, the provision of the RM1 billion KWAP Climate Fund, and the development of the Pengerang Biorefinery to produce low-carbon fuels such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF),” he said.
