Budget 2027: AKPS Allocation Jumps Over 1,000 Pct To Strengthen Border Management

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The increase in the allocation for the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) under Budget 2027 reflects the MADANI Government’s priority to enhance operational capabilities and strengthen integrated national border management.

AKPS said the MADANI Budget 2027, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, reflected the government’s continued commitment to strengthening national security, improving public service delivery efficiency and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

Under the budget, AKPS has been allocated RM490 million for 2027, compared with RM37 million in 2026, an increase of more than 1,000 per cent.

“This significant increase in allocation reflects the priority given by the MADANI Government to enhancing operational capabilities and strengthening integrated border management.

“It will also reinforce AKPS’ role as the lead agency for national border control and protection,” the agency said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the RM22 billion allocation to the Home Ministry also reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the domestic security ecosystem.

AKPS also noted Budget 2027’s emphasis on strengthening security screening at airports, including the installation of 48 new body and baggage scanners at the country’s major international airports.

Moving into 2027, AKPS will prioritise strengthening the implementation of the AKPS Service Scheme, enhancing the competencies of its officers and the Malaysia Border Guard (MBG), expanding operational readiness at gazetted entry points, and preparing for the full operation of the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link.

“These efforts are important to ensure that AKPS has the capabilities and capacity to keep pace with the increasing movement of people, goods and cross-border trade,” it said.

In realising the MADANI Government’s aspirations, AKPS is committed to ensuring that every allocation is utilised prudently, transparently and with high impact, guided by the principles of good governance, accountability and integrity.

“AKPS’ priority is not only to ensure the security of the country’s entry points, but also to strengthen public and investor confidence in Malaysia’s border management system,” it said.
