Budget 2027 Sets Tone For Stronger Governance, Accountability - ICDM
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The government’s emphasis on integrity and stewardship in Budget 2027 sets the tone for greater accountability and stronger corporate governance, according to the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM).
ICDM president and chief executive officer Jackie Mah said measures to strengthen oversight of government-owned entities, enhance transparency in public procurement and reinforce accountability in the management of public funds reflect the government’s commitment to good governance.
“These measures are also essential to restoring public trust amid some of the ongoing fraud and governance issues,” she said in a statement.
Mah noted that the proposed Government-Linked Entities Bill is a significant step towards reinforcing governance and oversight of the entities entrusted with managing public money and resources.
“In addition, we also welcome the RM1.1 billion allocation for enforcement agencies to uphold the rule of law,” she said.
Ultimately, Mah said resilient economies and high-performing institutions are built on the foundation of principled leadership, effective oversight and a commitment to accountability.
Moving forward, she said governance must remain anchored in the values that Malaysia aspires to uphold.
“By strengthening governance across both the public and private sectors, Malaysia will be better positioned to realise its aspirations, enhance public trust and create enduring value for generations to come,” she added.
On Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, tabled Budget 2027, which amounts to RM459.8 billion, comprising RM376.8 billion in federal operating expenditure and RM83 billion in federal development expenditure.
