Budget 2027: Backbenchers Welcome Higher Aid, Wages And Housing Allocations

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Government Backbenchers Club (BBC) has welcomed Budget 2027, describing it as reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening the national economy and safeguarding the people’s well-being.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the BBC welcomed the increase in allocations for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid and the monthly SARA basic aid to RM16 billion, as well as the proposal to raise the individual tax relief limit from RM9,000 to RM12,000.

In a Facebook post, she said the increase in the minimum wage from RM1,700 to RM2,000, along with the introduction of a minimum wage of RM2,500 for semi-skilled jobs and graduates, was an important step towards addressing income-related concerns.

“This approach shows that the MADANI Government not only wants to ease the burden of living expenses, but also strengthen the people’s ability to earn a more dignified income,” she said.

On housing, Dr Zaliha said the BBC also welcomed the development of Bandar MADANI Bukit Jalil, the allocation of nearly RM1 billion for public housing projects, including Rumah Mesra Rakyat and Program Residensi Rakyat, and the increase in funding for the construction and maintenance of civil servants’ quarters to RM2.3 billion.

She said BBC MPs would use the parliamentary debate to scrutinise the budget, highlight the people’s needs and propose improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the announced measures.
