Budget 2027: Zulkifli Welcomes RM3.1 Bln Allocation For Islamic Affairs
PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan has welcomed the RM3.1 billion allocation for Islamic affairs in Budget 2027, expressing appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a statement today, Zulkifli said the increased allocation demonstrates the MADANI Government's continued commitment to elevating Islamic affairs and the welfare of the ummah (Muslim community) through high-impact initiatives.
"May all these efforts bring genuine blessings and prosperity to Malaysia, ensuring Islam continues to flourish and remain safeguarded in our country," he said.
Anwar, when tabling Budget 2027 themed "Reaching for the Skies, While Anchored on Our Values" today, announced that the allocation for religious affairs has been increased to RM3.1 billion from RM2.6 billion allocated this year.
The Prime Minister also announced a special incentive of RM150 a month for 500 Religious and Fardu Ain Class (KAFA) teachers who educate special needs students, including through sign language and Braille Quran.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government, through Lembaga Tabung Haji, will fully cover Social Security Organisation (Socso) contributions for all 40,000 imams, bilal, tok siak, noja, marbut, and takmir teachers.
Meanwhile, Zulkifli commended the government's decisive action in agreeing to amend the Road Transport Act, noting that it aligns with the Islamic principle of diyat (financial compensation) to preserve life.
"Recognising the tragic crashes caused by drunk drivers and those under the influence of drugs that claim innocent lives, the government has taken a firm stand by agreeing to amend the Road Transport Act.
"This amendment will compel offenders to pay compensation to victims or their families - in line with the Shariah requirement of Diyat to demand justice and preserve the sanctity of life (Hifz An-Nafs)," he said.
