Budget 2027 Boosts APM’s Disaster Response With More Assets, Higher Allowances

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The allocation for the procurement of 17 amphibious boats and an increase in volunteer allowances will enable the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) to strengthen its rescue operations and disaster preparedness.

APM Chief Commissioner Mohammad Abiddin Abd Rahman said the measures announced under Budget 2027 reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening civil defence capabilities, particularly in responding to disasters such as floods.

He expressed his appreciation to the government for the allocation, saying the additional rescue boats and higher volunteer allowances would not only meet current operational needs but also strengthen the country’s disaster management system.

“Strong operational capabilities, supported by highly trained and motivated personnel, are fundamental to delivering more effective civil defence services,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.

The hourly allowances for volunteers from the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), Volunteer Fire Brigade, Police Volunteer Reserve and Civil Defence Volunteer Force have been increased to RM9 for volunteer personnel and RM10.80 for supervisors.

An allocation of RM339 million is expected to benefit nearly 50,000 volunteers.
