KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Budget 2027, totalling RM459.8 billion, aims to turn resilient economic growth into real gains for the people with better wages, smarter targeted support, stronger fiscal discipline and a bold push towards higher-value industries.
When tabling Budget 2027 in Parliament today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, said of the total budget, 30.2 per cent or RM138.85 billion goes to the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Defence.
Anwar said the measure of a budget's worth is not the thickness of the document, the size of the allocations or the number of announcements made.
"The measure is far more fundamental, which is whether many more people can live dignified lives, and whether the Malaysia that we will pass on to the next generation is a fairer one from the Malaysia that we inherited,” he said.
Themed “Malaysia MADANI: Menggapai di Langit, Mengakar di Bumi”, the 5th MADANI Budget, is the second Budget under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
The Prime Minister stressed that the national budget is a moral statement, or national waad (a promise or pledge) of a responsible government.
He said that the country would not abandon those struggling with hardship, and that every Malaysian child, regardless of family background, region or social standing, has the right to realise and fulfil their potential.
“This covenant is not a one-way promise. The nation provides the space and opportunities, while the people make the most of them through knowledge, hard work, creativity and courage.
“The government safeguards the trust placed in it, while the people strengthen the nation through effort and excellence,” he said.
Anwar said the government had heard the concerns of the middle-income group (M40), who had remained patient and resilient despite also being burdened by the rising cost of living.
Hence the government is increasing the individual tax relief limit to RM12,000 from RM9,000, a limit that had remained unchanged since 2010.
At the same time, the government is adopting a progressive approach by adjusting the tax rate for high-income earners with annual incomes exceeding RM1 million to 30 per cent.
