TCab Tech, Sidec Explore Commercialisation Of E20 Flying Taxi

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) and CChina’sTCab Tech have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore commercialisation opportunities for the Chinese company’s five-seater electric flying taxi in Malaysia.

In a joint statement today, they said the collaboration will also support the development of the country’s low-altitude economy (LAE), with TCab Tech planning to establish a regional business centre in Selangor to support commercial development, local partnerships and expansion across Southeast Asia.

Under the MoU, TCab Tech will contribute its expertise in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft research, development and manufacturing.

Sidec will facilitate the company’s engagement with relevant government agencies, industry players and potential partners in Selangor.

The agreement was exchanged by Sidec chief executive officer (CEO) Yong Kai Ping and TCab Tech founder and CEO Ng Yon Wui at the opening of the “Malaysian Engineers, Global Impact: TCab Tech E20 eVTOL Showcase” at IOI City Mall here today.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, state Investment, Trade and Mobility executive councillor Ng Sze Han, and IOI City Mall general manager Wilfred Wong witnessed the exchange of the agreement.

Ng said Malaysia’s aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities, engineering talent, tourism sector and demand for regional connectivity made the country a potential market for eVTOL applications.

“The LAE doesn’t take off on aircraft technology alone. It needs certification, regulation, infrastructure, industrial capability and real use cases to come together,” he said.

TCab Tech will explore potential applications for its E20 aircraft in tourism, intercity and intracity travel, including connections between transport hubs and tourist destinations, short trips between nearby cities and mobility options within urban centres.

The company has also appointed Ng as industry advisor to Sidec, where he will share industry perspectives on developing high-technology sectors in Selangor, including aerospace, advanced air mobility and autonomous technologies.

Meanwhile, Yong said the collaboration would help connect TCab Tech with relevant partners and stakeholders as it explores opportunities in Malaysia.

The E20, which can carry five passengers, is currently undergoing type certification with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). TCab Tech has completed key stages of the process, including its certification basis (G-1), means of compliance (G-2) and certification plan.

The company’s preparations for overseas markets, including Malaysia, follow a civil aviation safety cooperation MOU signed between the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and CAAC in September 2026.

CAAM is also finalising its proposed Malaysia Low Altitude Economy Framework, which includes a phased implementation roadmap.

The E20 is on public display at Symphony East 3, IOI City Mall, from 10 am to 10 pm daily until Nov 9, with free admission.
