AMEC Urges Govt To Recognise Courier Industry As Essential Infrastructure

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC) has called on the government to recognise the courier industry as essential infrastructure for Malaysia’s digital economy and national resilience, and to support its continued development under Budget 2027.

In a statement today, AMEC said courier networks connect Malaysian businesses with their customers, enable micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to reach wider markets, and support trade and employment nationwide.

It said reliable services at competitive prices are important to business growth and consumers’ everyday needs.

AMEC president Ronald Tan said Malaysia’s digital economy depends on dependable delivery networks.

“Budget 2027 provides an opportunity to strengthen the conditions that allow courier companies to invest, improve productivity and serve businesses and consumers over the long term.

“A healthy courier industry supports business growth and the communities it serves. AMEC remains committed to contributing industry experience and working constructively with the Government to support Malaysia’s economic priorities,” he said.

AMEC said it hopes Budget 2027 will support industry modernisation through technology adoption, operational efficiency and workforce development, helping courier enterprises improve service quality and meet changing customer expectations.

The association also emphasised the need for a commercially sustainable operating environment that enables courier companies to invest in their networks, develop their workforce, and maintain reliable services nationwide.

“Continued improvements in productivity, service quality and innovation would support this objective,” it said.

AMEC said it welcomes continued engagement with the government and relevant stakeholders on practical measures to strengthen the industry.
