Tax Revenue Collection Up 9 Pct To RM129.6 Bln In 1H2026

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's tax revenue collection increased by nine per cent to RM129.6 billion in the first half of 2026 (1H2026) compared with RM119.1 billion in 1H2025.

Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong said the increase was partly driven by higher corporate income tax collection and higher sales and service tax (SST) collection, particularly from the food and beverage, services, insurance and logistics sectors.

The government is also committed to achieving its RM343.1 billion target for the whole of 2026, he said.

“Stable macroeconomic growth is expected to continue to impact positively on tax revenue collection.

“Targeted tax reform measures also play a role in ensuring a more effective revenue collection mechanism, and serve as a foundation for building investor confidence, economic stability and the country’s competitiveness,” he said during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding to Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) who asked how this year’s total tax revenue collection compares with the previous year.
