Jeppesen ForeFlight Unveils AI Agents For Commercial Aviation

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Jeppesen ForeFlight has unveiled the first of hundreds of planned artificial intelligence (AI) agents for Jeppesen ForeFlight Airflow, its Aviation Operating Intelligence platform, aimed at helping airlines improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and support decision-making.

The platform, introduced as the company’s agentic AI strategy in July, allows customers to use Jeppesen ForeFlight’s agents, third-party tools or their own agents, or combine them according to their operational needs. Customers can also determine the level of automation while retaining human oversight of decisions.

“Our industry is unique in terms of the safety, efficiency, comfort and global regulations required to fly passengers and cargo.

“Jeppesen ForeFlight Airflow is an aviation-grade platform that every operator can adopt at their own pace and level of automation,” said Jeppesen ForeFlight chief executive officer, Brad Surak in a statement.

Built on over 90 years of aviation expertise and insights from more than 60 million flights using the company’s products annually, the platform is designed to reason through operational cause and effect rather than rely solely on general pattern matching.

The first agents target three areas of operational challenges in commercial aviation, namely Trip Trading, which helps crew members exchange trips more efficiently; Target Mastery, which helps planners build pairings and rosters based on business objectives such as cost, fatigue and reserve coverage; and Augmented Ops Control, which evaluates and ranks recovery options during operational disruptions.

Jeppesen ForeFlight said each agent operates using an aviation-focused context layer, with customer data and knowledge remaining under the customer’s control. Recommendations also include supporting facts, sources and reasoning to enable operators to review decisions and maintain accountability.

The platform is built around five principles, namely contextual reasoning, certified inputs, visible reasoning, operation within the aviation Safety Management System framework and human-centred decision-making.

Additional agents for business and military aviation are expected to be introduced, as Jeppesen ForeFlight expands the platform across the markets it serves. The company has also begun seeking commercial aviation partners for a co-development phase ahead of a broader rollout planned for early next year.
