RM514.85 Bln Of Federal Debt To Mature In 1-5 Years; Annual Debt Growth Trending Down -- LKAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Thirty-nine per cent of the RM1.32 trillion federal debt as of Dec 31 last year, amounting to RM514.85 billion, will mature within one to five years, according to the Auditor General’s Report (LKAN) 2/2026.

The report said RM313.39 billion (23.7 per cent) will mature within six to 10 years, and RM492.52 billion (37.3 per cent) will mature in 11 years or more.

Federal debt refers to the outstanding debt of the Federal Government arising from domestic borrowings, external borrowings and external assistance, excluding the debts of government agencies or government-owned companies.

According to the Auditor General, federal debt increased by RM73.16 billion (5.9 per cent) to RM1.32 trillion, up from RM1.25 trillion in 2024.

However, the pace of the federal debt’s annual growth is showing a declining trend to 5.9 per cent last year compared with 10.2 per cent in 2022.
