Argentina Unveils Citizenship by Investment Programme
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Argentina has unveiled details of its new Citizenship by Investment Programme, with applications expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 as the country seeks to position its wider economic and strategic assets more prominently on the international stage.
Presented by Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli during Argentina Week in Paris, the programme will offer two investment routes: a US$350,000 non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury or a US$800,000 subscription to a government bond created specifically for the programme. (US$1 = RM4.08)
The Argentine Government said the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to open and integrate the economy internationally, alongside reforms aimed at strengthening the investment climate and attracting foreign capital.
In a statement, Henley & Partners chief executive officer, Dr Juerg Steffen said the framework reflects Argentina’s ambition to strengthen its position in the global competition for internationally mobile capital, entrepreneurs and talent.
“Argentina has considerable underlying strengths, and this initiative creates an additional mechanism through which the country can connect with international investors, business owners and entrepreneurial talent,” he said, adding that Henley & Partners had engaged with the Argentine Government through workshops and discussions on the emerging framework.
Meanwhile, Henley & Partners Managing Partner and Head of Government Advisory, Philippe Amarante said the citizenship programme should be viewed within Argentina’s broader investment proposition, given the country’s strengths in energy, critical minerals, food production, technology and human capital.
He added that residence and citizenship policies could support wider national objectives when aligned with economic priorities and backed by strong governance, due diligence and transparency.
The Argentine Government said the programme will incorporate financial transparency and risk-management standards aligned with Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations, with applicants subject to identity, source-of-funds, criminal, reputational and immigration-history checks.
The announcement comes amid growing demand for multi-jurisdictional residence and citizenship planning, with Henley & Partners saying it works with clients from over 100 nationalities across more than 40 residence and citizenship programmes.
Henley & Partners said internationally mobile families were increasingly diversifying their residence rights, citizenships, investments and business interests across multiple jurisdictions.
