Budget 2027 An Opportunity To Boost Government-Industry AI Collaboration – AWS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Budget 2027 offers an opportunity to strengthen government-industry collaboration and boost Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, said Amazon.com company, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AWS Malaysia country manager Hussein Mohd Ali said the government has already named AI a growth sector under its “Made by Malaysia” ambition.
Closing that gap takes government direction, industry expertise, and businesses putting both to work.
“Budget 2027 is a chance to strengthen that partnership,” he told Bernama.
According to AWS’s report Unlocking Malaysia’s AI Potential 2026, Malaysia’s AI adoption rate increased to 38 per cent from 27 per cent in a year, based on AWS research involving 1,000 business leaders. This brings the number of businesses using AI to more than 3.4 million.
Hussein said 57 per cent of Malaysian businesses obtained their AI capabilities from external consultants, while 69 per cent said locally based software providers were more important to their AI adoption than the underlying platforms.
He said policies that support this preference, including procurement incentives, co-investment mechanisms and incubation programmes, could help strengthen the local AI ecosystem and accelerate adoption.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, is scheduled to table Budget 2027 on Oct 9.
