Govt Unveils MHGN Initiative, Strengthening Malaysia's Halal Global Leadership
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- The government has introduced the Malaysia Halal Global Nexus (MHGN) initiative, a comprehensive strategy that aims to expand international markets, strengthen industrial players' networks, and elevate global confidence in the nation's halal integrity.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, said the MHGN was developed through collaboration between the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), which provides halal governance and standards, and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), which contributes its expertise in international trade promotion.
“Centred around the tagline ‘Connecting the Global Halal Ecosystem’, this new initiative calls for solid support and close synergy among all ministries, agencies, and industrial players to ensure that Malaysia's halal products and services sustainably and continuously dominate the global supply chains,” he said in his welcoming remarks at the Global Halal Summit (GHAS) 2026. The event was held in conjunction with the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 here today.
Zulkifli said Malaysia has emerged as a significant global leader in the halal economy over the years. He added that the continued growth of halal exports together with the expansion of halal industrial and commercial hubs across the country reflects the resilience and competitiveness of Malaysia's halal ecosystem.
“At the heart of this achievement is the Malaysian halal certification system spearheaded by JAKIM. Through a robust certification framework, including the recognition of foreign halal certification bodies across different regions of the world, Malaysia has helped establish a chain of trust that strengthens international confidence in halal products and services,” he said.
Malaysia therefore remains committed to strengthening its role in the global halal landscape through trusted standards, innovation, technology, and strategic international cooperation, he added.
