PM Anwar To Hold Bilateral Meeting With Li Qiang, Deliver Keynote Address At 5th GDTE

HANGZHOU, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to conclude his three-day working visit to China on Thursday with high-level diplomacy talks in Hangzhou and by attending the Fifth Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE).
The final leg of his trip features a high-level bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the West Lake State Guest House, providing both leaders with another opportunity to review bilateral projects and explore strategic cooperation of the countries.
Malaysia’s Ambassador to China Datuk Norman Muhamad said on Monday that during the meeting, the two leaders are expected to discuss several matters to strengthen bilateral relations under the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in line with the aspiration of building a High-Level Strategic Malaysia–China Community with a Shared Future and President Xi Jinping's initiatives on the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the Global Civilisation Initiative (GCI).
Anwar and his delegation will also attend a luncheon hosted by Li.
Focusing on deepening economic integration, accelerating digital trade cooperation, artificial intelligence and advancing high-tech investments, the prime minister is slated to deliver a keynote address at the GDTE, where Malaysia is participating as a guest country of honour, alongside with Hungary.
Anwar is also scheduled to officiate the Malaysia Pavillion at the GDTE, which will serve as a platform for business matchmaking, technical exchange and market expansion, connecting Malaysian technology companies with potential partners and buyers in China and the wider region. This is Malaysia’s first participation in the expo.
Held at the Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Centre, the five-day expo is one of China’s major digital economy platforms that highlights artificial intelligence (AI) and global cooperation.
Anwar, who arrived in Shanghai on Tuesday, is accompanied by a delegation that includes Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with total bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) for the period of January to August this year.
