YTL AI Labs, Nvidia Launch Open Dataset Reflecting Malaysia’s Population Diversity
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- YTL AI Labs Sdn Bhd, the artificial intelligence solutions arm of YTL Power International Bhd under the YTL Group, today announced Nemotron-Personas-Malaysia, an open dataset developed with NVIDIA to represent Malaysia’s population diversity through 1.35 million synthetic personas.
In a statement, YTL AI Labs said the personas were generated from 150,000 base records using distributions grounded in official Malaysian demographic statistics.
It said the dataset is free for commercial use under a permissive licence, providing developers, researchers and enterprises with a foundation for building AI systems that reflect Malaysia’s languages, cultures, regional differences and working life. It is also the first dataset in NVIDIA’s Nemotron-Personas collection to lead with Bahasa Melayu.
“The personas are statistically realistic profiles of a population generated to reflect Malaysia’s actual demographics, region by region.
“No personal data is contained in the dataset and no individual can be identified from it,” YTL AI Labs said.
YTL AI Labs said the Nemotron-Personas-Malaysia is the latest addition to NVIDIA’s growing Nemotron-Personas collection, following datasets developed for the United States, Japan, India, Singapore, Brazil, France, South Korea, El Salvador, Vietnam and Belgium.
It said the methodology captures Malaysia’s complex ethnic and regional diversity down to the district level, representing major ethnic groups such as Malays, Chinese and Indians, alongside groups including Kadazan-Dusun, Bajau, Murut, Iban, Bidayuh and Melanau, as well as regional Bumiputera categories across Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
The 150,000 base records are expanded into 1.35 million detailed personas across 39 fields, covering demographic characteristics such as age, gender and occupation, as well as personality traits based on the five-factor OCEAN model, a standard framework in personality psychology.
YTL AI Labs claimed the dataset captures not only demographic characteristics, but also differences in personality and behaviour.
