OGX Group Ventures Into Renewable Energy, Targets Data Centre Market

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- OGX Group Bhd has ventured into the renewable energy (RE) industry, targeting opportunities in Malaysia’s growing data centre market through battery energy storage systems (BESS).

In a statement today, the information technology infrastructure solutions provider said its wholly owned subsidiary OGX Green Tech Sdn Bhd will spearhead the new business.

The group said Zhejiang Hyxi Technology Co Ltd (HYXI), a China-based energy storage and inverter specialist with a presence across Europe, has appointed OGX Green Tech as an authorised distributor to market, distribute and sell HYXI’s products in Malaysia.

“The new business segment will focus on the distribution of BESS, inverters and batteries, serving both residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in Malaysia.

“In addition, OGX Green Tech also intends to tap into the growing demand for energy storage solutions within Malaysia’s rapidly expanding data centre industry, where data centre operators are increasingly seeking cleaner and more resilient alternatives to conventional diesel backup generators to support the surge in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data-intensive workloads,” it said.

OGX executive director and managing director Tan Suan Loong said the group’s brand-centric model has driven its business, with the RE expansion a natural progression of this strategy.

“The appointment by HYXI brings together its technology and product expertise in energy storage solutions with OGX’s local market access, distribution capabilities and systems integration experience.

“This combination provides us with a strong platform to establish and scale our presence in the energy storage segment as a new and complementary growth vertical for OGX,” he said.

Tan said the transition towards cleaner and more resilient energy solutions is creating growing opportunities across the residential, C&I and data centre segments.

“Through OGX Green Tech and our appointment by HYXI, we are well positioned to address this demand by combining proven energy storage solutions with OGX’s existing customer relationships, market reach and systems integration capabilities.

“We believe this new business can broaden our revenue base and position OGX to participate in the long-term growth of Malaysia’s energy transition,” he added.
