Bursa Malaysia Stays Firmer At Midday

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at midday, supported by buying interest in selected heavyweight counters, led by banking and healthcare stocks.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 14.47 points to 1,681.41 from Monday’s close of 1,666.94

The benchmark index, which opened 2.80 points higher at 1,669.74, moved between 1,665.23 and 1,681.89 during the session.

Market breadth was positive with gainers leading losers by 534 to 432. A total of 538 counters were unchanged, 1,369 untraded and 11 suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.14 billion units worth RM1.45 billion.

Technically, Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said the benchmark index staged a minor recovery on Monday but remained capped below key moving averages.

“Despite the moving average convergence divergence histogram hovering below the zero line, it is displaying a rounding bottom pattern, while the relative strength index sits near oversold territory,” it said in a note today.

Hence, it said key resistance sits at 1,681-1,696, while support holds at 1,636-1,651.

Among heavyweights, Maybank added two sen at RM10.40, Public Bank rose five sen to RM4.84, CIMB gained 19 sen to RM7.84, Tenaga Nasional strengthened six sen to RM13.10, and IHH Healthcare put on 38 sen to RM8.

Top active counters include AIMAX and Jaks Resources, both of which are flat at one sen and 17 sen, while Zetrix AI firmed half a sen to 20.5 sen, AirAsia expanded five sen to 58 sen and Capital A grew 3.5 sen to 27.5 sen.

Of the top gainers, Fraser & Neave was 38 sen higher at RM22.98, UMS Integration strengthened 29 sen to RM8.75, APM Automotive inched up 28 sen to RM2.82, Malaysian Pacific Industries advanced 26 sen to RM43.06 and MI Technovation climbed 24 sen to RM5.90.

As for the top losers, Nestle dropped 58 sen to RM89.12, Allianz Malaysia was 30 sen lower at RM21, Sunway Healthcare reduced 10 sen to RM2.19, Hibiscus Petroleum shaved off nine sen to RM2.27 and Can One shed eight sen to RM1.61.

On the index board, the FBM Mid 70 Index rose 101.34 points to 17,790.48, the FBM Emas Index added 95.71 points to 12,494.32, the FBM Top 100 Index inched up 96.55 points to 12,286.99, the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 77.80 points to 12,314.56, and the FBM ACE Index advanced 43.10 points to 5,359.53.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index put on 1.05 points to 184.55, and the Energy Index improved 2.00 points to 847.43.

The Financial Services Index surged 179.81 points to 19,671.28, and the Plantation Index added 30.47 points to 9,440.96.
