Automotive Industry’s TIV Down Two Pct To 71,428 Units In August – MAA

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s automotive total industry volume (TIV) decreased two per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 71,428 units in August 2026 from 73,041 units in the same month last year.

For the first eight months, TIV increased by three per cent to 530,478 units from 516,862 units.

The TIV in August 2026 is mainly attributed to the highest monthly sport utility vehicle (SUV) sales  recorded for the year, at close to 24,000 units, largely contributed by new model launches, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said in a statement today.

Sales of passenger vehicles eased 0.4 per cent y-o-y to 67,058 units in August 2026 from 67,302 units a year earlier, while commercial vehicle sales declined 24 per cent to 4,370 units from 5,739 units previously.

Meanwhile, production was lower by seven per cent y-o-y to 64,549 units from 69,351 units previously, it said.
