Melvin Ooi Joins Bank Islam As Group Chief Technology Officer
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd has appointed Melvin Ooi as group chief technology and transformation officer (GCTTO), further strengthening the group's leadership capabilities in technology, innovation and enterprise transformation.
Prior to joining Bank Islam, Ooi was the chief executive officer of Ryt Bank, where he was involved in establishing and developing one of Malaysia's newest digital banking platforms.
Bank Islam group chief executive officer Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz said his appointment strengthens the leadership and execution capabilities supporting this agenda. "His experience across digital banking, payments and technology-driven businesses complements Bank Islam's institutional strengths as we continue modernising our platforms, enhancing customer experiences and building a future-ready organisation," she said in a statement today.
With Raja Teh Maimunah's previous experience in leading AEON Bank, Malaysia's first Islamic digital bank, and Ooi formerly at Ryt Bank, widely recognised for its AI-powered digital banking model, the bank said they would collectively provide “first-hand insight into building, scaling and operating digital banking platforms.” This would support Bank Islam's efforts to strengthen its technology foundations, enhance customer experiences and advance its enterprise-wide transformation agenda.
The banking group noted that Ooi brings more than 24 years of leadership experience spanning digital banking, fintech, payments, customer loyalty and financial services across Asia and Australia. In addition to his leadership role at Ryt Bank, he previously held senior positions at BonusKad Loyalty, Alipay, American Express and Maybank, where he led initiatives in digital transformation, payments innovation, customer growth and strategic partnerships.
At Bank Islam, Ooi will lead the execution of Bank Islam's enterprise-wide technology and transformation agenda, including initiatives relating to technology modernisation, digital capability development, data strategy, innovation and operational excellence.
