SINGAPORE, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Mercedes-Benz Malaysia plans to introduce 17 new models for the Malaysian market in 2027, expanding its offerings across both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) segments.
Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia president and chief executive officer Martin Schulz said the company will offer a diverse range of vehicles spanning from top-end luxury models to compact segments.
“There is a massive firework of products across the entire range and in all of the propulsion.
“Whether it is a combustion engine or battery electric, we will have new products across the board, ensuring that our customers have the full choice without compromising on safety, comfort, technology or design,” he told Bernama on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia unveiled the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 AMG Line for the Malaysian market, which will be locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang.
The company also introduced the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC to the Malaysian market, reimagining its globally best-selling model on a purpose-developed EV architecture.
According to Schulz, the company has seen steady demand for its EVs in the Malaysian market, with their share doubling year-on-year, although it remains lower than that of ICE vehicles.
“We see a growth rate that is over-proportionate, really doubling year-over-year, and therefore we are glad to be offering all the choices to our customers,” he added.
Meanwhile, Schulz said the luxury automaker would continue to invest in the Mercedes-Benz Production Plant in Pekan, particularly as it expands the local assembly of EV models.
He said the Pekan manufacturing facility has significant capabilities, including a full body and paint shop, and will play a key role in assembling the company’s upcoming models, with most of the 17 new models planned for 2027 to be produced there.
“We started the localisation of our EVs in 2023, and we just communicated that we are also localising both the fully-electric GLC as well as the fully-electric CLA.
“It is quite a production depth, and we are continuously investing with new products into that operation,” he noted.
