Mastercard Launches Wallet Pay To Expand Digital Payments Worldwide

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Mastercard has launched Wallet Pay, a global portfolio of solutions designed to expand interoperability and innovation for digital wallets across contactless, QR code and online payments.

In a statement, Mastercard said digital wallets now serve more than 4.3 billion users worldwide, with global usage expected to exceed six billion by 2030.

The portfolio enables wallet providers to connect to Mastercard’s global payments network and expand access to financial services, with collaborations involving digital payment providers including Alipay+, Axian, CRED, DaviPlata, Mercado Pago, MTN and TenPay Global.

Mastercard chief product officer, Jorn Lambert said the solutions would help payment providers improve the interoperability and user experience of their services while providing greater convenience for consumers and businesses.

Wallet Pay supports cross-border interoperability, card issuing, digital and e-commerce payments, money transfers and access to financial services for underbanked and unbanked consumers.

Mastercard said more than 3.7 billion Mastercard credentials can be connected to digital wallets, while its money-movement capabilities cover more than 200 countries and territories and 150 currencies.

The company said Alipay+ connects more than 50 e-wallets and banking apps, as well as over 10 national payment schemes worldwide, helping its partner wallets connect to Mastercard Wallet Pay at scale.

Mastercard said the launch builds on its broader commitment to financial inclusion, including the Global Financial Health Coalition, which brings together digital wallet providers to support efforts to improve financial health.

The company said Wallet Pay would enable wallet providers to introduce new use cases without significant changes to their existing infrastructure, supporting the continued development of digital wallet services globally.
