AirAsia Resumes Flights Affected By Anak Krakatau Eruption

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- AirAsia has resumed flights to and from destinations affected by the Anak Krakatau volcanic eruption following the reopening of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The airline said the airport had been temporarily closed since Sept 6 due to volcanic ash clouds from the eruption which posed a significant threat to safe aircraft operations in the vicinity of volcanic clouds.

“With Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport now reopened following its temporary closure since Sept 6, 2026, AirAsia has resumed affected services to and from Jakarta, with the exception of two flights on Sept 8, 2026,” it said in a statement today.

The two affected flights are QZ178 from Jakarta (CGK) to Bandar Lampung (TKG) and QZ179 from Bandar Lampung to Jakarta.

AirAsia said all affected guests had been notified of their flight status and recovery options, adding that it is working to ensure passengers could resume their journeys safely on the next available flight.

It advised guests travelling to or from the affected destinations to check their latest flight status on its website at airasia.com/flightstatus, as the weather situation remains fluid.
