Maxis Deploys Nokia Optical Technology To Boost AI, Enterprise Connectivity

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- Maxis Bhd has deployed Nokia’s optical transport technology to enhance its nationwide and cross-border network infrastructure amid surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and enterprise connectivity.

In a statement today, Maxis said its enterprise arm, Maxis Business, has connected more than 50 data centres nationwide, strengthening its position as a digital infrastructure and connectivity partner for Malaysian businesses. 

It said this deployment further enhances its ability to serve enterprise customers, expand its enterprise portfolio and provide hyperscalers and customers with consistent, high-quality performance.

“Through this deployment, Maxis leverages Nokia’s 1830 PSS and PSE-6 optical technology to deliver up to 1.2 terabits per second of capacity per channel.

“By expanding the transmission spectrum using C+L band technology, it doubles the carrying capacity of the existing fibre, while Nokia’s WaveSuite automation ensures high network resilience,” it said.

Maxis noted that for enterprise customers, this translates into a fast, reliable and secure network that provides robust support for mission-critical workloads.

It also enables over-the-top players and hyperscalers to deliver high-capacity 4K media streaming, high-density AI computing, data centre interconnects and large-scale data backups with low latency, said the integrated connectivity provider.

Maxis chief enterprise business officer Prateek Pashine said the collaboration with Nokia strengthens the optical foundation of its network, enabling the company to meet growing traffic demands while providing a best-in-class connectivity experience for global and domestic customers.

He added that the collaboration will support customers seeking resilient, secure, high-capacity and low-latency networks to manage their AI workloads and connect their Malaysian data centres with the rest of the world.

“It also allows us to support and advance the government’s digital transformation agenda. We look forward to continuing to work with Nokia on future initiatives,” he said.

Nokia head of Southeast Asia Ming Kin Ngiam said Nokia’s next-generation optical networking technology enables service providers such as Maxis to build scalable transport networks to support the rapid growth of AI, cloud and enterprise traffic.

“Together, we are creating a future-ready optical foundation that connects the intelligence emerging across AI, cloud and enterprise ecosystems, while supporting robust connectivity and emerging digital services,” he said.

Maxis added that by modernising its optical transport network, it is supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a regional digital hub while delivering the capacity needed to power the next generation of digital services.
