Gold Futures End Higher On Weaker US Dollar, Yield Concerns
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Gold futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended higher today, buoyed by a weaker greenback and efforts by the United States Treasury Department to keep longer-term yields low.
It was reported that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday he may further increase the government’s repurchases of Treasuries.
The Treasury Department had said it would at least double government debt buybacks over the next few months, focusing on the sensitive longer-duration segment of the market.
At the close, the spot-month August 2026 contract gained to US$4,586.40 per troy ounce from Thursday’s US$4,494.50 per troy ounce, and the September 2026 contract rose to US$4,602.90 per troy ounce from US$4,511.00 per troy ounce previously.
The October and November 2026 contracts both increased to US$4,619.90 per troy ounce from US$4,527.30 per troy ounce yesterday, while the December 2026 and February 2027 contracts strengthened to US$4,627.70 per troy ounce from US$4,535.10 per troy ounce.
Trading volume fell to 254 lots from 338 lots on Thursday, while open interest contracted to 327 contracts from 415 contracts previously.
Physical gold was fixed at US$4,482.95 per troy ounce at the London Bullion Market Association’s afternoon fix on Aug 20, 2026.
