MPM Clarifies Labuan Port Remains Fully Operational

By Jailani Hasan

LABUAN, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Megah Port Management Sdn Bhd (MPM), the operator of Labuan Port, today clarified that a recent report on the temporary closure of a jetty does not involve the closure or suspension of operations at Labuan Port.

MPM, in a statement to Bernama today, said the report, published today by a Sabah-based Chinese-language daily, referred to “Labuan Port” in its headline when it should have referred to the “Public Marina Jetty”.

“This has resulted in confusion among certain quarters regarding the operational status of Labuan Port,” it said.

MPM said Labuan Port remains fully operational and continues to receive and handle vessels carrying various types of cargo and containers for both the consumer and oil and gas sectors.

“Port operations continue without interruption, with vessels calling at the port and cargo handling activities proceeding as normal,” it said.

The company assured port users, shipping operators, industry players and other stakeholders that there is no closure or suspension of operations at Labuan Port and that all port services continue as usual.

MPM said Labuan Port continues to play an important role in supporting the movement of goods and logistics activities on the duty-free island, including those serving the consumer and oil and gas sectors.

It said the company remains committed to ensuring the continuity, efficiency and reliability of port operations while meeting the needs of its customers and stakeholders.

MPM also expressed appreciation for the understanding and continued support of all port users, customers and industry stakeholders.
